Source Mix

The distribution of candidate sourcing across different channels — job boards, referrals, social media, direct sourcing, vendor networks — and the relative effectiveness of each channel.

Source Mix refers to the combination of candidate sourcing channels that a recruiter or agency uses to find talent, and the relative contribution of each channel to successful placements. Understanding and optimizing source mix is critical for recruitment efficiency and cost management.

Common sourcing channels in Indian IT staffing include: job boards (Naukri, Monster, Indeed), professional networks (LinkedIn), employee and candidate referrals, internal database (previously evaluated candidates), social media (Twitter, GitHub for technical roles), campus recruitment, walk-in drives, and vendor or sub-vendor networks.

An effective source mix balances cost, speed, and quality. Job boards provide high volume but lower quality ratios. Referrals typically produce the highest quality candidates but limited volume. LinkedIn offers targeted sourcing but at premium cost. Internal databases provide the fastest and cheapest candidates but require ongoing maintenance. The optimal mix varies by role type, seniority level, technology domain, and market conditions.

CVPRO provides source mix analytics that track where placed candidates originally came from, the cost-per-hire by channel, time-to-fill by source, and quality indicators (client acceptance rate, retention rate) for each sourcing channel. This data enables agencies to allocate their sourcing budgets and recruiter effort toward the channels that produce the best outcomes, optimizing their recruitment ROI over time.
